Lorentz Center Workshop Advanced X-ray Tomography, Leiden, February 10-14 2014.

Dates:
Friday, February 14, 2014 - 23:15

This dedicated EXTREMA workshop took place at the Lorentz Center in Leiden (http://www.lorentzcenter.nl/). The program consisted of a broad lecture program in the mornings and focused discussions in the afternoons, where the participants worked in three groups on several key problems at the boundary of X-ray imaging and computation. MP1207 provided participant reimbursement for 32 participants and Local Organiser Support.

Training school on soft X-ray cryo-tomography reconstruction of cells, Madrid, January 15-17 2014.

Dates:
Wednesday, January 15, 2014 - 23:15

In the frame of three European projects, the Instruct ESFRI project on Structural Biology, the Biostruct-X project and the COST Action MP1207, the Instruct Image Processing Center at CNB-CSIC organized a training school on 3D Reconstruction in Electron Microscopy and Soft X-ray Microscopy. The course was focused on image processing topics. The course was attended by 21 participants. MP1207 provided trainee grants for 4 participants, reimbursement for one trainer, and Local Organiser Support.

Workshop on Algorithms for 3D Reconstruction in Soft X-Ray Microscopy, Madrid, January 20-21 2014.

Dates:
Monday, January 20, 2014 - 23:00

This workshop was focused on soft X-ray tomography of cells, using Fresnel zone plates. Recovering accurate 3D images from the measured signals requires new inversion algorithms. The workshop served as a forum for discussion on solution approaches (both experimental and computational). The workshop was attended by 17 participants. MP1207 provided reimbursement for several speakers, and Local Organiser Support.

Scientific Kick-Off Meeting, ESRF, Grenoble, October 10-11 2013.

Dates:
Thursday, October 10, 2013 - 23:00

The Scientific Kick-Off Meeting of the EXTREMA COST Action took place at the European Synchrotron (ESRF) in Grenoble. The meeting was attended by about 50 (invited) participants. The event consisted of a lecture program and several discussion sessions. MP1207 provided reimbursement for all attending MC members and several invited speakers, as well as Local Organiser Support.

International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis

Dates:
Monday, September 7, 2015 - 18:00

In recent years, significant advances have been made in the field of X-ray imaging. Modern X-ray scanners can collect a huge amount of data which is processed by custom-tailored reconstruction algorithms. Reconstructed images are then analysed with advanced image processing techniques. As a result, faster image formation, increased spatial and temporal resolution, and more detailed image analysis can be achieved. The aim of the special session is to investigate the tomographic process from the viewpoint of the data processed. The topic of the special session includes, but is not limited to

  • linear and non-linear modeling methods of X-ray imaging devices;
  • novel type and/or custom-tailored image reconstruction algorithms;
  • handling with noisy, imprecise or missing data in tomography;
  • collecting and exploiting prior information in image reconstruction;
  • data collection, analysis and visualization in reconstruction tomography;
  • machine learning methods in tomography;
  • optimization in tomography;
  • applications in absorption-, phase-, fluorescent-, and diffraction-contrast tomography.

Lorentz Center Workshop: Artefacts in X-ray Tomography

Dates:
Friday, January 9, 2015 - 17:45

This Lorentz Center Workshop aims to initiate an in-depth discussion on the various artefacts that arise in X-ray tomography. The mismatch between the models based on theoretical X-ray physics and the real-world experiments plays a crucial role in making advanced algorithms work well on complex measurement data. The program will consist of a broad lecture program in the mornings and focused discussions in the afternoons, where the participants will work in small discussion groups, based on concrete cases of artefact-problems in synchrotron practice. A series of case descriptions (including explanations, current reconstruction strategy, and experimental datasets) will be used to guide the discussion.

This workshop especially (but not exclusively) targets young researchers at the PhD and postdoc stage. Women are specifically encouraged to participate. The registration will close on Monday December 1st. As the capacity of the workshop accommodation is limited to 55 participants, we may need to make a selection based on the total number of registrants. You will be informed of the selection by Monday December 8th. We will try to obtain a balanced representation of all fields involved in this topic (experimental, mathematical, computational, …). The COST budget allows to provide full or partial reimbursement (travel/hotel/meals) for a substantial number of participants. For the reimbursement, priority will be given to participants at the PhD and postdoc stage.
